The Republic of Guinea is the first Member State to sign the Country Convention with World Sports Alliance (WSA)

On August 3rd, 2007 H.E. Mrs. Sangaré Maimouna Bah, Minister of Health signed on behalf of the Guinea government signaling the membership of the Republic of Guinea to the WSA, becoming the 6th Member State to the Alliance.

On May 14th, 2008, the Prime-Minister of the Republic of Guinea, H.E. Mr. Lansana Kouyaté, signed the Country Convention with the World Sports Alliance.

The Country Convention is the first to be concluded between the WSA and one of its 14 Member States. It is the result of a 6-week process conducted by Dr. N’Zebela-Togba Pivi, Director of the National Institute of Youth, Sports and Physical Education (INJEPS) delivered from a mandate given by H.E. Mr. Baïdy Aribot, Minister of Youth and Sports, co-signatory of the Guinea Membership.

The Prime-Minister H.E Lansane Kouyate, on April 30th, 2008 officially invited the WSA to come to Guinea to sign the Country Convention.

Mr. Ousmane Moutari, in charge of the diplomatic relations for WSA, Mrs. Sylvie Delpech-Klein, Director of formation and coordinator of the promotion of the Men-Woman parity, and Mr. Olivier Latulippe, Chief of Staff of the WSA President Office.

The WSA delegation was accompanied by some of their private partners in the implementation of the Public-Private Partnerships (PPP). Leaders of companies involved in innovative funding with WSA, namely, Mr. Michel Faille, for the WSA International Business Consortium, Mr. John Leth Andersen, Vice-President of EnEco Industry Ltd. and Mr. Thomas Jones, President of Tribase Industries was also in attendance.

The entire delegation was warmly welcomed by the highest authorities of Guinea, signatories of the Country Convention in favor of their youth and social policies for development through sports and education.

The signature of the Country Convention and the first PPP will allow the construction, in the first phase, of a new National Institute of Youth, Sports and Physical Education (INJEPS), that will be affiliated with the National Center of Excellence in Physical Education, Sports and Leisure & Millennium Development Goals (CENEPSL-OMD) of WSA. The project will be realized on a 10 hectares site in Conakry dedicated to that purpose by the Guinean government. On the same site there will also be built the WSA National Community Pilot Center. In addition, 15 WSA community Centers will be established in the different areas and suburbs of the capital.

Therefore, from the beginning, Millennium Development Goal (MDG) #8 will be the engine for the support and development of MDGs # 1, 4, 5 6 and 7, from the transformation of waste to electricity which will also clean up the country’s capital city.

The first PPP will generate, in the next year, the installation by EnEco Industries Ltd., three waste-to-energy plants, each having the capacity to transform 600 metric tons of waste per day and to produce 126 GW/h of electricity per year.

The PPP formula, created by WSA, creates innovative financing, as a large part of the yearly operation profits will be directly distributed, through the WSA Business Consortium Guinea, to the WSA youth development program. This process is done by the establishing new WSA Community Centers in every region of Guinea and to ensure the perpetual growth of the WSA Community Centers and education programs for the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs).

After the first PPP, as stipulated in the Country Convention, the WSA, with private sector partners, will establish over the following months, other business projects that will generate revenues under the PPP formula to ensure the continuity of the development of the centers and their growth in favor of the Guinean youth policies. The PPP will cover the sectors of agro-pastoral, natural resources, communications and transportation. Other sectors of activity will be identified in partnership with the Country.

The WSA invites all private companies to join the WSA International Business Consortium and to participate in this innovative initiative in favor of youth through sports. Similar to the PPP formula inaugurated by the Republic of Guinea, this formula can deploy in each WSA Member State by the signature of its own Country Convention.
